Title: Gas duct for a recovery boiler
The aim of the project was to design a new gas channel between the enlarged recovery boiler and the electrostatic precipitator. The channel was designed for gases with a temperature of 450°C. Total length of the channel was ~100m and within this length the rectangular shape varied from 4000x2000mm to 2000x1800mm. The design task was to select materials, insulation, cut-off fittings and compensation system. Due to large changes in the position of connection stubs resulting from thermal expansion, the entire duct was mounted on springs enabling displacement.
Due to the extension of the recovery boiler and the design of the new gas duct, it was necessary to remove one of the main columns of the hall. Removal of the column and necessary reinforcement of the existing structure were part of the structural design. The project also included solutions for the necessary reinforcement of the existing structure resulting from the load increase and new service platforms for the canal and furnace.
